Did you know that collagen skin care products do not, or should not contain collagen? This fiberous protein is too large to be absorbed through the skin so rubbing in all over your skin can not provide any benefit. No a good collagen skincare product will help encourage your body to grow new collagen. Read more here.
Since collagen is a protein that is used all over your body and is one of the building blocks in most of the tissues in your body, you might not realize that in your skin it is what provides the strength and natural ability of your skin to hold its form and structure. It is the loss and break down of collagen that causes wrinkles and sagging skin.
There are of course other things as well that break down that contribute to the aging of our skin, and some amino acids that break down that lead to the break down of collagen, but you get the general idea. Less collagen means more wrinkles.
But there are things that you can do to help slow or reverse the loss of collagen. Of course slowing the loss can be thought of as the defensive part of the whole strategy. Protecting you skin from UV rays and other sources of free radicals as well as other environmental impacts like hot dry wind or extreme cold will help reduce the breakdown of collagen. That old idea your mother used to tell you about protecting yourself from too much sun is actually true. Have you ever seen how old someone looks when they have spent their whole life out in the sun?
The other half of the strategy is of course the offense. For that you find substances that can either help to reduce the damage by free radicals by healing the damage done, or you find substances that promote the growth of new collagen. Even better of course is to find a skin care product that has ingredients that do both.
I personally wanted to find a company that I could trust to sell a product that actually works and actually contains the ingredients that they claim are contained in their products. Of course the laws require that if you say your product contains olive oil or some vitamin, they will require that you actually do have some of these ingredients in the product. However, when I say company I can trust I am talking about a company that does not put the minimal amount required by law of a helpful ingredient just so that they can say it is there.
In conclusion, keep in mind the main idea is help your body so it can recover the collagen it had when your skin was younger. To do that you need a trustworthy company that produces the products that work like they claim. Work on both preventing further loss of collagen while using products that help to recover lost collagen.
